Project Overview
drtalk is a HIPAA communication platform app in the United States. This is mainly used by dental practices primarily in California for efficient work operations.
I was part of this team while I was on my stint as Senior User Interface Designer for XAM Consulting.
My task is to revamp their mobile version of the app and also a researcher in terms of doing its concepts and for future features.
Role
Senior User Interface Designer/Researcher
XAM Consulting, Australia
Project Status
Both mobile and desktop apps are currently in the beta version released in few practices in California.
Tools used

Before: The early versions of the app does not have good user interface which can decrease the user engagement
Challenge
The challenges I faced during the development of this application is that we (designers) do not have the luxury of creating multiple concepts for this project due to the time constraint given by the stakeholders.
When I joined the team, they were already in the middle of the agile sprint. So, as the designer, I must able to come up with designs that are appropriate within the time limit so that the developers will not have a hard time developing it.
Approach
Here's my approach for this challenge:
-
Daily coordination with developers in terms of the difficulty of each UI elements
-
Side by side synchronization with the other Senior UI designer of the desktop version for design consistency
-
Daily UI research for design patterns that can be applicable to the app
-
Daily design support is given to the developers to make sure that the designs from Figma/Zeplin are consistent in Xamarin

A balance between trend and uniqueness
Like most of the communication app in the market, we make sure that the user experience and user interface of the mobile app are sleek and modern.
Following the Apple Human Interface Guidelines as our foundation of the design system, we were able to create a health communication app that people working in dental practices can easily understand and stand-out against its competitors.

Results
When we rolled out the beta version to a handful of dental practice employees, they were stunned by the look, functionality, and huge improvement of the mobile app. Early users start to get excited once the app is fully released to the public.
The mobile app will be released soon in Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
